Recommendations for Importing Your Medications and Topical Products

Below are some recommendations to help you receive your medications and topical items on time:

  • Every medication or product with medicinal components must have a Medical Prescription.
  • You must always attach your ID or passport. Immigration Cards or IDs from other countries are not accepted.
  • You must always present an invoice along with your prescription, if it was not sent directly from a pharmacy in the United States.
  • You must always present an invoice for any topical product — skin creams, cosmetics, shampoo or conditioners, aromatic oils, perfumes, repellents, eye drops, or any product that comes into contact with the skin.
  • The procedure takes 3 to 5 business days once initiated with Pharmacy and Drugs.

Every prescription must meet the following general requirements: CLICK HERE

  • Name of the public health institution or prescribing physician
  • Full name of the patient, age, and prescription date
  • Social security number (optional if applicable)
  • Generic and commercial name of the product
  • Concentration or strength, pharmaceutical form, route of administration, quantity, dosage, and days of treatment. The prescribed quantity and dose must match the days of treatment.
  • Full name, professional license number, specialty, and phone number of the prescribing physician. This information must be written in legible print or through a lithographed stamp.
  • Usage instructions
  • Handwritten signature in ink of the prescribing physician.
  • The institutional prescription must bear the stamp of the issuing executive unit.
  • For chronic conditions, the physician will use the extended-use prescription, valid for three prescriptions of the same medication, corresponding to 3 months of treatment. Extended-use prescriptions must include the phrase "Extended-use prescription." The format must contain three identical numbered prescriptions: 1 for the first, 2 for the second, and 3 for the third.

We hope these recommendations are useful so that your merchandise can be processed promptly.

  • The authorization process for importing products classified as medications or drugs is not a process requested by Airbox Express, but by the National Department of Pharmacy and Drugs of the Ministry of Health. The cost for carrying out this procedure with Airbox Express is $8.
